Techniques to solve Listening Question Type
- Fill in the form/note/table/flow-chart/Summary completion/Inquiry of Service
Finding keyword is easy as there is enquiry about the service and other person must provide information about it. So, it’s the easiest section of the listening.
Example:
Travel from Kathmandu to Chitwan
Distance: ……… Km
Options:
- Public Bus
-too crowded
– takes ……. hours
-Charges Rs. ………
- Private Taxi
-Comfortable Travelling no intermediate stop
-Takes 4 hours
-Charges Rs. 2000
- By Plane
-Shortest Travel Time
-Takes ……. hour
– Charges Rs. 4500
This type of questions as you can see has direct questions and answers. The topics may include library services, short picnic plan, reservation of any kind, inquiry on local activities of fairs or concerts, inquiry about some competition etc. Hence be attentive towards the specifics of the question and so your answers are easily found.
- Multiple Choice Question (one from three or two from Five)
This type of question requires more attention to the details as you need to compare keywords from question and each multiple-choice option while listening the recording. Every keyword has the boundary it is specifying, find that boundary. For every option that is incorrect you just cross/omit that option.
- Short Answer Question
This type of question requires you to look for the concrete facts that are directly stated in the recording. The short answer question relates to very common topics like place, price, or time or some features etc.

- Sentence Completion
Test takers need to understand that sentences have main idea and supporting idea. Thus, this type of questions checks on your ability to see between these two.
- Plan, Map, Diagram Labelling
This type of question checks your ability to follow the description, follow every direction and hence conclude as whole picture. Test takers primary focus needs to be on descriptive words that describes the direction.
- Matching
In this type of section, test takers should focus on unique features/characteristics of the question and match the options. This type of question checks on your limit or the extent up to which you can listen, process and store information for longer period.
