Step-by-Step Genuine Pathway to Study in Italy
Step 1️⃣: Apply to an Italian University via Universitaly
All students must submit their university applications through the official Italian Government platform – UNIVERSITALY.
You will typically need:
- Academic Transcripts
- Passport
- Motivation Letter / Statement of Purpose
- Proof of English proficiency (IELTS / TOEFL as required)
- Course-specific supporting documents (if applicable)
- You need to create account in Universitaly and submit an application
- Based on your application, they will provide you with Pre-Acceptance Offer Letter
- Follow up the conditions to move further for the Pre-enrollment Approval
Universities evaluate applications based on merit, eligibility, and documentation authenticity.
Step 2️⃣: Pre-Enrollment Approval
After receiving university acceptance, students must complete Pre-Enrollment via the Universitaly portal.
This is a compulsory step before proceeding for the visa and confirms:
- Your admission is genuine
- Your qualifications are recognized
- Your intention to study in Italy is legitimate
Step 3️⃣: Declaration of Value (DoV)
The Declaration of Value (DoV) validates that your academic qualification is authentic and equivalent to the Italian education standard.
Important Update (Effective May 12, 2025)
For Nepali students:
DoV submission is now handled by VFS Global Nepal.
There are 5 places from which you need to verify documents of your level,
- SLC: From “Office of the Controllers of the Examination, Sanothimi”
- Plus 2: From “NEB, Sanothimi”
- Bachelor’s: Respective University for Verification. For Example, it will be “Office of the Controller of Examinations” for TU
- Collect all documents and Visit NCED (National Centre for Education Development)- Get Stamp of “Ministry of Education”
- Then verify all these documents in Consular Department (MOFA)
For Bachelors, Follow 1, 2, 4 and 5th steps
For Masters, Follow all the 5 steps.
After having all these documents verified, you need to book appointment at VFS where you need to submit all these documents. During Appointment you will need,
- Appointment Confirmation Letter
- Attested Degrees and Photocopies of Each Set
- Signed Letter of Purpose regarding DOV

- Declaration regarding academic progression from 10 to Maximum Qualifications by mentioning “Passing Year, Marks Obtained, Name of Institution and Affiliated Board”
- Signed Copy of Data Protection Form
- Pre-enrollment summary from Universitaly
So, the processing time is 6 weeks from the date of Application. Following is the processing charge for the verification process,
VFS GLOBAL service charges NPR. 207 per page and International Courier Fee of 1490 NPR will also be applicable.
Step 4️⃣: Italian Student Visa Application
Where to Apply
Nepali Students
- Apply through VFS Global Nepal
- Applications are processed by the Consulate General of Italy in Kolkata, India
- These are the list of documents asked by Embassy for Visa Application
Required Visa Documents (General Overview)
Students generally need to submit:
- Valid Passport with 3 months of validity left after study duration with two blank pages
- Visa Application Form
- Cover Letter on your overall study purpose in ITALY, why that particular institutes and that particular course, your future goals and overall financial situations
- Admission letter from the Italian Higher Education Institution with Pre-enrolment Summary with receipt of payment of enrolment fees, if applicable
- Proof of Educational Degrees
1)Based on the request of the Italian Higher Education Institution:
- Copy of Declaration of Value (DOV)/ CIMEA Statement of Comparability
2) In case the Italian Higher Education Institution does not require any of the documents mentioned above
- Copy of Final Degree/FinaI School Certificate duly attested by the competent department of the State Government and Apostilled by the Ministry of External Affairs.
- Proof of Financial Support (approximately €6,000–€6,500 per year)
1)Income should be consistent from last 6 months
2) Average Income of Family should be 18 lakhs per year and there should be TDS for monthly Income and If it’s business then there should be audit report and Tax Clearance from IRD
- Recent photograph
- Proof of Accommodation in Italy
- Valid Health Insurance covering 30,000 Euro for 1 month
Even if students receive scholarships, financial capacity proof is still required at visa stage.
