Basics of Writing Task 1

WRITING TASK 1

  • You need to describe visual information relating to line graphs and bar graphs, tables, charts, maps or process diagrams which show some manufacturing process or life cycles.
  • Minimum Word Limit of 150 words
  • You need to complete this task within 20 minutes
  • This part of Task 1 covers One-third of marks of your overall writing band

 

Task 1-Writing Techniques (Must Follow)

  • Be attentive towards the period in which data is given. The tense of answer depends on the timeline provided.
  • Include most important and relevant information which is obvious while seeing the graph.
  • Always compare the information based on different time period
  • Describe how the trend increased, decreased, or remained stable according in displayed time frame.
  • Try to write the data in different sentence structure. Don’t be boring one.

 

Band Descriptors

Always focus on these parameters to structure your essay. Since there are four criteria, try to compare your answers with each segment.

Ways to structure Task-1 Essays

  1. Writing Task-1 (14-16 Sentence)
  • Introduction (2 or 3 sentences)
  1. Paraphrase the question this is because we need to show the examiner that we have rich vocabulary and be observant on tense.
  2. Don’t miss ‘what’ ’when’ and ‘where’, information in index and Y axis.
  • Overview (2 or 3 sentences)
  1. Compare and comparison is must in overview.
  2. We write Summary of all trends that has increased or showed decline or remained constant without mentioning the actual date and data.
  3. We need to contrast between the trends that has opposite nature

 

  • Body Paragraph 1(5-7)

Group the item whose trend are similar and allocate them for separate paragraphs

  1. Mention the initial year date and data
  2. Explain the trend’s nature for some period
  3. Explain the trend’s nature for some period
  4. Mention the final year date and data

 

  1. Body paragraph 2(5-7)

Mention the data that of remaining items to that of mentioned in Body 1

  1. Explain some data for certain time interval
  2. Explain some data for certain time interval
  3. Explain some data for certain time interval
  4. State the data that have decreased over period, has less proportion or remained constant over the given period.
