Sample Questions/Answer
Q) Many museums and historical sites are mainly visited by tourists but not by local people. Why is this case and what can be done to attract more local people to visit these places?
Lots of historical monuments and museums are observed by tourists from outside the country than inside. This essay agrees with such fact as local people residing have knowledge about them from many years, but foreigners do not. More locals can be drawn to such places through motivation other than cultural ties.
Historical sites and artifacts related to it are different from country to country. Many locals tend to have knowledge about them through their cultural and religious ties as they get to hear the story from early childhood. So, they consider visiting such places as a waste of time and even worse must pay for the entrance fees for the things they are already familiar with for decades. On the other hand, tourists from outside are unaware of such culture to that specific place. Their aim is to accumulate knowledge about new places by linking the historical site and museums to the present to calm the curiosity. For example, Eiffel Tower is most visited by tourists than locals in France. Henceforth, monuments of historical importance are visited by tourists more often than locals.
Some measures can be deployed to stimulate local visitors to such heritages. As visitors have cultural knowledge, another aspect of educational and entertainment criteria should also be prioritized. Be it the introduction of game zones or recreational competitions like walking, dancing, and swimming can make such destinations more appealing. Furthermore, the change in decorations inside and outside of such sites with no damage to their originality could turn places like this into a weekend destination. For example, organizing a Sundance music festival in Delhi skyrocketed the ticket sales for Red Fort in 2017. Thus, extracurricular activities in such places foster local tourism.
To conclude, people visit places for new adventures and thrills. So, local visitors can be drawn to local monuments by renovating and upgrading the facilities around them so there remains the thrill of something unknown.
